*IMPORTANT: Please choose your references from the following list: your pastor/spiritual leader, supervisor, teacher, or significant adult (non-peer, non-family).

Also, please be sure to check back with your references to see that they send in the form ASAP. We cannot set up an interview until we have received both reference forms, thanks.

Other Information

Once you have cruised this website, read over the Program Description, and thought and prayed about serving, apply to Mission Year following the directions above. Due to the volume of applications we process, we appreciate receiving applications and references in electronic format when possible.

Let us know if you want a hard copy of the application.

You can be sure we will be glad to hear from you. In the meantime, if you have any questions, need more information, or want to get the "inside story" from a Mission Year alum, just Contact Us. The more you know about Mission Year, the better we like our chances at having you join.

International Applicants

As global communication increases and travel costs decrease, more and more people all over the world are becoming interested in Mission Year. While it often makes most sense for young Christians to first serve the poor and oppressed in their own countries, and while we definitely discourage those primarily seeking a tourist adventure, Mission Year generally welcomes international applicants from Western backgrounds. Indeed, over the past few years we have accepted Team Members from Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, and South Africa.

Unfortunately, as much as we appreciate the sincere desire of many Christian young adults from non-Western cultures to serve with Mission Year in the United States, the fact of the matter is that our program is not designed to accommodate them, and our staff is not equipped to help them navigate the adjustment to Western teammates and American inner-cities. The situation would be different if we had greater resources and if our program were longer than one year, but at present Mission Year is simply unable to consider non-Western international applicants.
