Becoming a Mission Year team member

Hey my name is Amallia, I would be a sophomore in college if returning in the fall, but instead I have become a Mission Year team member! One thing that motivated this decision was prayerfully reflecting on my freshmen year and recognizing how I foolishly allowed my time to fill up with things the Lord doesn’t want me to be consumed by as his child. Though my time consuming activities were not necessarily bad such as school work and hanging out with friends they are far less important then Christ and can only be good when He is the center of them. The Lord has shown me this summer that we are here but for a short while and the point of this life is to live it to glorify our Creator and to do this through loving Him and loving His children and creation the best we can. So I want to be intentional with my time and where I am putting my heart and treasure. I want to be in the will of Christ because that is the only safe and good place to be and I want to be used by Him to bless others and further His kingdom. This is why I am greatly excited to be a part of Mission Year reaching out to those living unjust lives, living in intentional community having roommates who love Jesus and share some of the same passions, I am excited to simply be in a neighborhood and meet people and talk and have my focus of the day be to share Jesus’ love. I am excited to have my eyes open and my heart broken for those that Christ loves I am excited to be made uncomfortable and to be challenged and for Christ to reveal Himself more to me through this process.

I have been placed in Atlanta, Georgia and cannot wait to meet my new roommates!

About Mission Year

Mission Year is a year long urban ministry program focused on Christian service and discipleship. We take teams of young people, place them in an area of need, and help them to serve people and create community. We are committed to the command of Jesus to “love God and love people,” by placing the needs of our neighbors first and developing committed disciples of Christ with a heart for the poor.
