What will Happen at Mission Year

Right now, i am so burnt out on college and life, that i don’t have the capacity to know what will happen at mission year. none of us may. but we do know one thing, it is going to be good.

I will be in Philly, which is cause for excitement, because most likely i will get to work with the group Yes, And… and join in on what they are doing with education and the arts, 2 passions of mine.

Ive written and thought a lot about how i have felt stuck here. stuck in Cincinnati, stuck in college, stuck in Babylon. it has been good, but it is time for it to be over. and i cannot even understand how excited i am.

i have been in quicksand for the past 2 semesters and i am looking forward to finding Jesus in Kolkata, holding a branch, to pull me out. ill be going to India in a few weeks for most of the summer. i plan on meeting with Him there, because i cant keep my head above water enough to see Him here.

Philly looks like an excellent novitiate year for me. a good transition from this life to the next, and the promised land being new york city. i am completely thrilled about meeting new people to share my life with. i am excited that i get to work in an arts capacity, and i am also particularly excited about being close to the simple way. i have so many questions for those folks, and i am sure i will have more after coming back from India.

mostly, i am excited about moving my life closer to Jesus’. im sold out on that kid. and i want to know Him better.

thats all i have for now. i usually have lots to say, but i’m tired of sayin’ it, i would like to go and live it. the next time i write in here will most likely be a couple weeks before we head to the big city. in the meantime, i’m gonna go try and live this Gospel message in Kolkata.

piece,

Chris

About Mission Year

Mission Year is a year long urban ministry program focused on Christian service and discipleship. We take teams of young people, place them in an area of need, and help them to serve people and create community. We are committed to the command of Jesus to “love God and love people,” by placing the needs of our neighbors first and developing committed disciples of Christ with a heart for the poor. im exhausted / Dec 1, 11:25 AM

thanksgiving is something of a food gauntlet for generous folk. there have been so many meals, and so many leftovers. how are we supposed to grapple with the issues of world hunger when we cant even begin to use all that shows up on our door?

one thing is for sure. even though we live on 100$ a week for 6 adults for food, we could live on a lot less than that, and we are trying to.

NO MORE FOOD!!!

and no more kids, just for tonight…they are tiring.

See how they run... / Oct 20, 11:52 AM

tonight, 3 little mice decided to play in our kitchen.

this sparked a conversation on ethical treatment of animals.

once again proving the importance of relocation. to have the conversations that change the world, one must live in the places where mice move freely. and then once those conversations are had, they must move freely out of the house.

okay, the metaphor breaks down eventually, but relocation is still important.

What a Twisted Web We Weave / Sep 26, 01:38 PM

let me tell ya’ little story bout a man named chris, and all the people he met and how he already knew some of em.

so, ohio is really representing strong this mission year. one of my team members is from akron, his name is joe. a guy in camden knows the other Composition major at my school, and ive seen him around, he lives in troy i think. and one of the guys in i think chicago went to my school this past year. then the ultimate.

i went to india just before i came here to mission year, something i am still sifting through, and will probably write on later. but while there i met a girl named amy. thanks to the magic of facebook, i had already met amy online, she was going to be in philly for mission year. WHAT!? oh yeah, i met amy at orientation at Shishu Bhavan for the Missionaries of Charity, half way around the world.

we have city wide meets where we get together with the other three teams from the tri-state area. yesterday we were assigned prayer partners and i way be wrong, but i think i am the only guy paired with a girl, but as amy is the only girl paired with a guy. weird. i think it will be a good time. we are concerned about moving deeper into the struggle of life, and i need someone to keep me accountable on that.

its just interesting how small your world gets when your areas of focus become greater, when you move farther down the line in whatever you choose to invest your life in. im choosing to invest my life in Jesus and people that happens to take the shape of self-imposed poverty, simplicity, and self sacrifice. odd how familiar that sounds, i think i may have read it in a Book somewhere, oh well. today we will move one more click down that road.
