I am still here in Wilmington, enjoying the ride. It’s been almost three months already! There have been ups and downs and turns along the road. We are experienceing life a little more like the way that Christ intended. Here’s a little glimps at some of what I have been up to lately…
There are a couple of kids that I work with on a regular basis that are really making progress. Davontae is in first grade and at the beginning of the year he hated reading and he could hardly add at all. Now he’s really excited about doing math and he is learning how to spell. The other day at camp during homeowrk time another boy asked how to spell funny. Davontae chimed in f-u-n-n-y. He was polite and helpful… which is amazing considering the way that he used to be. Whenever he finishes an assignment that we give him he asks for another. Yesterday we were working on subtraction and I had him do 28-6 and it took him a few tries, but he got it. When I told him that he had the right answer his little face lit up. He is so great. I love seeing him so excited about learning new things. He really has come a long way.
Another boy, C.J., has made a lot of progress as well. He
has a temper problem, he angers really easily and he blows
up quickly. I think is has something to do with the way
things are at home. But anyway, he used to spend the entire
homework time (45 minutes) working on a single sentence,
giving me attitude the entire time. This past week he got
moved to my group and he’s been doing really great. He
finishes all of his assignments within the time period.
Yesterday he wrote 15 sentences and worked on questions from
a story that he read. That’s amazing because he normally
struggles with reading. Progress is happening, which is so
exciting.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. God is moving.
