Hit the lights. / Mar 27, 10:35 AM

It’s difficult to share the love of Christ with others when you might not be feeling it yourself. The weird thing is that we are able to feel His love most deeply when we are the least “happy.” He takes what we hold as important to redirect us to Him.

What totally sucks is how many times I trip over myself. No matter how much I learn, the same things come back to get at me. Dang man, I just want to kick myself. How many times will the same old things trip me up?

You know, I thought I’d outrun it
When I crossed the tracks.
I thought that I had gotten away
When it tapped me on the back. (Minor Threat, “It Follows”)

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. (Romans 7:15 NIV)

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. (Galatians 5:16-17 NIV)

Yesterday (Tuesday) at breakfast I was talking with a friend/guest at Breakthrough. He struggles with alcoholism and has a real hard time staying sober. One of the things he mentioned is that he needs to stay active to keep his mind busy and off alcohol.

This guy’s alcoholism is representative of our own ongoing struggles with self. We need to keep our minds busy. I need to keep my mind busy. Stay focused on Jesus. Fill your mind with him.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

I’m trying to get those lights turned down.

Peace.
