Matt Roark's Mission Year
My name is Matt Roark. To better understand me. Click on the following link that will direct you to Facebook.
I am doing Mission Year because I think it’s important for people to get involved serving people in their cities. I know that I am in Philly and not my hometown of Auburn, WA. I plan to come back and work for justice in Auburn and the major cities of Tacoma and Seattle in the fall of 2008.
Mission Year is teaching me alot about love, community, peace, and justice. God is working in my life and transforming it for His Glory.
Feel free to read my blogs if you wish.
Peace,
Matt
About Mission Year
Mission Year is a year long urban ministry program focused on Christian service and discipleship. We take teams of young people, place them in an area of need, and help them to serve people and create community. We are committed to the command of Jesus to “love God and love people,” by placing the needs of our neighbors first and developing committed disciples of Christ with a heart for the poor. Sabbath / May 9, 10:58 AM
In Mission Year we have what is called a Sabbath. In Philly our Sabbath is on Friday.
I was walking this morning to Cornerstone Christian Academy (the school I volunteer at) and I was had a conversation with God.
I realized that my Sabbath’s were not focused around what Sabbath was all about. God meant for Sabbath to be a day of rest, mine has been hectic. God wants me to seek His rest, because often I am tired from the week that has just passed.
So here in my plan for Sabbath:
1. Do not worry about what they day brings.
2. Rest in God’s presence.
3. Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy (in Friday’s Term).
4. Rest in God’s word outdoors or indoors and re-energize for the week to come.
5. Sleep a little bit longer.
6. Pray.
7. Hold fast to God’s love for me.
8. Journal about my thoughts and about what went on.
9. Go for a walk or go enjoy God’s creation.
10. Worship the Creator that brought life to me.
Sabbath is for rest.
I got to remind myself of that.

Beatitudes / Apr 28, 12:35 PM
The Beatitudes
Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them saying:
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
I have been reading the Gospel of Matthew, and this struck me. Its a powerful revolutionary message that Jesus preached. I am digging it.
Peace.

agape / Feb 8, 10:48 AM
Love is patient
Love is kind.
Love does not envy.
Love does not boast.
Love is not proud.
Love is not rude.
Love is not self-seeking.
Love is not easily angered.
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
Love rejoices with the truth.
Love always protects.
Love always trusts.
Love always hopes.
Love always perseveres.
Love never fails
Now replace the word “Love” with “Christ”
Christ is patient
Christ is kind.
Christ does not envy.
Christ does not boast.
Christ is not proud.
Christ is not rude.
Christ is not self-seeking.
Christ is not easily angered.
Christ keeps no record of wrongs.
Christ does not delight in evil
Christ rejoices with the truth.
Christ always protects.
Christ always trusts.
Christ always hopes.
Christ always perseveres.
Christ never fails
Thats agape love for you.
Peace,
Matt

we must go / Jan 15, 10:43 AM
This is a song called God of Justice by Tim Hughes.
To listen to it go to youtube and type in God of Justice.
This is what my heart wants and desires.
God of Justice, Saviour to all
Came to rescue the weak and the poor
Chose to serve and not be served
Jesus, You have called us
Freely we’ve received
Now freely we will give
We must go live to feed the hungry
Stand beside the broken
We must go
Stepping forward keep us from just singing
Move us into action
We must go
To act justly everyday
Loving mercy in everyway
Walking humbly before You God
You have shown us, what You require
Freely we’ve received
Now freely we will give
Fill us up and send us out
Fill us up and send us out
Fill us up and send us out Lord
