Black History Month / Feb 26, 09:22 AM

With all of the emphasis on February being Black History Month, I just wanted to say something concerning it. Black history isn’t just black history but American history. Black history doesn’t merely chronicle the history of the African race but of the human race. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, let us realize that the future of the white race and the future of the black race (and other races, too!) are inextricably bound. We learn more about black history to learn more about ourselves. Black history doesn’t last for just a month. We see it everyday. So let us make new history. How we bridge the continued racial tensions between black and white will dictate the arc of our future together. Let us strive for the perpetual advancement of the black man/woman. Not at the expense of others but for the betterment of all. When we work not for what is only good for us but good for all, only then do we truly realize our potential as men and women who truly have a glorious future.
