Romans 14 / Apr 28, 02:05 PM

Back by request..

I apologize for the lack of blog entries lately. My dear friend Jessica reminded me that at least one person is reading my blog and would like to see some updates. :)

There is a lot of my mind, so I’ll try and post a couple short ones, just to break it up a bit. To start, I think I’ll talk about Romans 14.

Romans 14 has been on my heart a lot lately. I read it about two weeks ago, kind of at random, and then read it again the next day. And the next. Then I read it to Lindsey one night last week when we were having some quality time. It keeps coming back to me. One of the reasons I like it a whole lot right now is because it deals directly with what I have been struggling with.

Romans 14
The Weak and the Strong

1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

And no, I am not particularly talking about eating meat and not eating meat. I am talking about all of the differences between myself and my team, myself and my neighbors, myself and the ladies at the shelter, myself and EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS WORLD. We have no authority to say who is right and who is wrong. God is the judge of that, and too often we like to put on that hat and decide that some people are right, and some are wrong. I like verse 4 where is says “who are we to judge someone else’s servant?” Who are we?? Who do we think we are playing God? The best part here is that Paul is writing to the church. He’s not writing to the Gentiles, the people who did not know God (at that time). The church has some serious issues nowadays because they think they can play God and decide who is going to heaven, and who is not. Or who is worthy to sit in their church, and who is not. Or even who is worthy to be spoken to with respect and love, and who is not. Come on people! We need to get our act together. Because God is the ultimate Judge (vs 10) and I’m sure He’s not to thrilled with us at the moment with all this nonsense.
