Top 10 Reasons to Do Mission Year
10. You get a year of hands-on experience that can help you decide what to do with your life. (Note: This is helpful before you spend lots of money on all 4 years of college or before you commit yourself to a job you’re not sure you’ll like!)
9. For those practical folks: You’ll get health insurance, housing, food, transportation, a monthly stipend, and loan deferment throughout the year!
8. You get to live in community with other folks who have a similar desire to love God and their neighbor. All while serving the poor and marginalized (aka – the ones the Bible talks about so much.)
7. You get to challenge yourself to live in a place you may be reluctant to go on your own.
6. It’s a way to live out your faith in a non-traditional-stay-inside-the-four-walls-of-the-church type of way. You’ll see the Kingdom of God in a whole new way!
5. Even though this is a year out of school you won’t stop learning! Through mentoring, readings, reflections, trainings, and life experience you will have opportunities every day to learn something new about yourself, other people, society, Christianity, etc.
4. You have the option to get academic credit, both undergrad and graduate level. The cost of these credits is extremely discounted due to Mission Year’s strategic partnerships.
3. Because we believe the Bible has some pretty great ideas, you’ll have an actual day of complete rest (Sabbath). And it’s not on Sunday!
2. You will have the opportunity to be a strong witness to your friends and family at home and school of the awesome work that God is doing in the city, you’re your neighbors, and in yourself!
1. You get to be a part of something bigger than yourself that is slowly making this world a better place. You become part of a movement re-imagining the Church and discovering that another way of living is possible. You are automatically plugged into a larger group of people who are passionate about and committed to participating in God’s restoration and redemption of our world!
