June 2009

Can you believe it’s already June? We’re fully immersed in the summer season of Mission Year which means lots of long, hot, fun days serving alongside our neighbors and playing with all of the kids who are enjoying their summer vacation. It’s hard to believe that there are only two months left for this year’s Team Members. As you’ve been able to see from their blogs (www.missionyear.org/blog/) all of the hard work of the previous months is paying off now.

Application Deadline

It’s also hard to believe that there is only a month left for you to submit your application to be a Mission Year Team Member this fall! That’s right, July 3rd is the application deadline and we’re working hard to process all of the applications that are coming in. We are excited to have cities full of young adults that are eager to love God and love people and we hope you are one of the ones that join us! So stop procrastinating and APPLY NOW! (www.missionyear.org/applynow/)

Just for Parents

We know that parents aren’t always the most easy to convince that you want to spend a year in an unfamiliar city to love, serve, and live simply. They often have questions about what you’ll really be doing, how you’ll be taken care of, and if you’ll be safe.

We wholeheartedly understand all of these questions and appreciate each of their concerns which is why we have a section of our website dedicated just to them. If you’re parents are unsure about your interest in Mission Year or reluctant about giving you their full blessing or just want to hear more from a parent’s perspective, send them to http://missionyear.org/parents and let them browse the site. Then make sure they know they are always welcome to contact us directly with any questions or concerns that they have. We can be reached at 888.340.YEAR or they can email Ashley Pharis.

Graduate and Undergraduate Options

If you’re wrestling with how your passion to serve in a radical way and your desire (or maybe you’re parent’s desire) to continue your education can be meshed we have some great options for you.

Through a partnership with Eastern University we have several opportunities for you to work toward a Master’s Degree while you’re serving with Mission Year! It’s a phenomenal chance for you obtain a quality advanced degree while exploring and nurturing your passion for justice, redemption, and service. The icing on the cake is that you also will receive an automatic 30% tuition grant just for being part of Mission Year!

Our partnership with Eastern University also allows us to offer up to 12 undergraduate credits to those who decide to take a year away from their college or university to serve with us. The credits can be transferred to most accredited schools and help to fulfill various requirements you may have.

If you have absolutely any questions about these academic options please email our Academic Director,Chris Lahr and check out http://www.missionyear.org/academic/!
