September 2007

Welcome to the first edition of this year’s Mission Year Recruitment newsletter. As with most schools, at Mission Year our yearly cycle starts in September. Each issue will contain great information about Mission Year, where you can check us out on the road, and stories to encourage your faith. Remember you can always email me with questions or for more information and you can apply for Mission Year online at www.missionyear.org/applynow. Have a great month and remember to live what matters!

Ponder This

As you continue considering participating in Mission Year there are many ways for you to stay connected to the big picture of the program.

First, as this year’s team members are set to arrive in their cities on September 7, please take some time to lift them up in prayer. As they leave their homes to follow God’s call to the city your prayer support is invaluable.

Second, as you most likely know, each Mission Year team member has a yearly support raising goal of $12,000. This goes toward covering all of their needs from food to housing to health insurance and more. Imagine the burden becoming lighter and lighter the closer they get to their goal. You can help carry their load! Even by giving $5, $10, or $20 a month (or a one time gift!) you are taking part in community as modeled by the Acts church.

Just go to www.missionyear.org/blog to choose a team member that you’d like to support and you will receive a monthly update from them throughout the year.

By sharing your resources in this way you are entering into a larger body that understands God’s heart for “the least of these”.

Please email Ashlee with your questions or to get help setting up your support!

Highlight of the Month

This month we are highlighting Mission Year President, Leroy Barber. This is Leroy’s second year as president following many years as the city director in Atlanta, Program Director, and Vice President. Along with being the president of a national ministry, Leroy is a husband to Donna and a father to Jessica, Joshua, and Joel. Leroy is also the Pastor of Community Fellowships, a church in Atlanta. You can get to know Leroy better be checking out his blog at www.leroybarber.com.

Faith Nugget

God makes leaders by taking people with the right raw material, putting them through the right experiences, and teaching them the right lessons…

Just as God transformed Peter from a brash and impulsive fisherman into a powerful instrument for His glory, so He can transform everyone who is yielded to Him.

You will never by an apostle, but you can have the same depth of character and can know the same joy of serving Christ that Peter knew. There’s no higher calling in the world than to be an instrument of God’s grace. Peter was faithful to that calling. May you be faithful too!
